Backup of acad mechanical 2004 menu files

I would like to know where to find the files I need to backup all toolbars & menu files I have configured in acad mechanical 2004.

All toolbars and menus. And how to restore them after I do a reinstall of software.

please be thorough.

In the standard acad 2004 it was as simple as saving the mns & mns files and putting them back in the proper folder after a reinstall. I see that acad mechanical 2004 uses different files for these menus and toolbars.

Thanks to all.

Joe

OPTIONS command's FILES Tab lists all folders and files your session is using. Help yourself.

Any chance of being more specific what files I need to backup the toolbars and menu files only? For acad mechanical 2004 specifically?

It says you are elite user. Can you be a little more helpful?

And how to restore this setting after a re-install of software?

I know how to access these areas, even with some of them being hidden system files.

There are many folders and files in the locations you mentioned. I know of this tab. Where you pointed me to looks like only one file for this. But I am thinking there are more than one file I need to back these up.

Toolbars are stored in MNU/MNS/MNR files in 2004, regardless of variant. I don't use MECH, so if that's the level of help you need you'll have to wait for someone else to swing by. All I can give you is general guidance. I don't even use the old 2004, so if some names have changed you are going to have to work through them.

OPTIONS command>Files Tab>Customizationm Files>Main Customization File> here you will find your primary in-use menu (and toolbars), the one you see on screen.

If there are other other loaded menus, start MENULOAD command, write down the menus that are loaded, then go hunt for them under your Windows Profile Name's folders (not the AutoCAD Mech Program Folders) and back them up too. You can skip Express Tools since that is on a disk you have I'm sure.

Ensure Windows Explorer is not hiding any files or folders from you.

Good luck.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I am very familiar with the files that
control the menus in acad 2004. But for acad mechanical 2004, the files
are acadm.mns and so on. But I tried to save those and then make a
change and restore from what I saved and it did not work like I have
done for years with acad 2004. I am thinking there are other files that
must go along with them to work.

Anyway, I hope someone else sees this and responds with some help. I
hate to lose everything I have done in customization if I had to reload
the software.

Thanks again.

I don't have 2004 loaded anymore but at some point Autodesk started placing these files under your windows user profile. Here are some example locations for Mechanical Desktop 2009. You can also sort by date, the files you modified will have the newest date. Note I am using Windows 7.

C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 2009\R17.2\enu\Acadm

Thank You very much. These are the things I am used to doing going back
many years. But seems like when I tried this with acad mechanical, I
could not get it to work.

I will try again a little more diligently. Thanks again. Is there an
email I can contact you at directly for a short followup later if I try
this?

The sort by date should highlight what files have changed. Alot has changed since I used 2004 but if I can help I will.
