For any of the shelf items, you can right-click on them and select "Edit" from the context-sensitive menu that appears. The associated commands will appear in an edit window.
I don't remember if this feature was available in 2009 - though I seem to remember that at one point you could middle-click on the icon and drag it into the Script Editor window to accomplish the same thing.
