Testing and going trough all the new changes that Maya Bonus Tools 2014 brings I ran into a missing feature called "Allow Referenced Animation Curves to be Edited". The option was originally found under the Animation Section in the Preferences Windows and basically allowed for the editing of referenced animation without having to go back to the original referenced file.
For further demonstration of this issue I have included the video that showcases the named feature. Watch starting at 5:50 into the video.
Although it is from Bonus Tools 2013 I hope that maybe it is somewhere else within Maya 2014:
