I am a research assistant at the University of Kentucky and I am using maya to create 3D images of cardiac data to show patients and have them manipulate their own heart as well as have special case studies available for interested physician/scientists.
To create these data sets we are using a program called TeraRecon. Unfortunately, this program only returns volume rendered data sets. Is it possible to take in volume rendered data in Maya? if so, how? Also, how can I effectively reduce the file size without losing data on the surface. Preferably, I'd like to get a 300Mb file to 100Mb without loosing surface data. For instance: http://p3d.in/x6HHZ
I'd like this surface to remain unaltered, but if I had to make the inside less detailed it would be okay. What matters most to me is the surface of the model.
Sorry if this message was a little confusing. I'm rather new to Maya but I'm eager to learn. I think this program can potentially be very helpful in the medical field.
