    manufacturing STL files

This option have very good potential in manufacturing

I would like our team to test it - and if ok to ask real users to check it as a manufacturing option

the problem is that we use STL files as input

can you please recomend/provide me with a translator from STL to CATIA Mesh (which is used by this option) - so we can test it ?

I think many of our 6000 users will use it because it enable working on parts in stages:

you perform manufacturing operations then get simulation result in STL

and continue to work on the result

in 3D parts it happen several times.

Also there is the area of interest of reverse engeneering (scanning 3D ...)

it will be nice to understand why you don't import STL. I guess converting from one mesh file format to another is almost terivial. So maybe there other reasons (CATIA mesh have special properties?)

If it is only a technical Mesh conversion issue and you can't find a convertor STL --> CATIA Mesh

maube you can provide me the binary file format of CATIA mesh you are using so I will do the convert myself?

    thanks, Eran

Thank you for the suggestion. For a future release, we can consider adding support for importing STL files directly into Inventor.

    Hello, Eran.

Have you tried the enhanced mesh import capability in Inventor Goodyear Beta?

If you want access to the Beta, please get in touch with Chris Mitchell (chris.mitchell@autodesk.com).

From a brief view Inventor 2013 can import  STL and point cloud

Question is what can be done with it:

API - what data can be obtained from these Mesh objects

    user - pick, measure

It is just asked for that a kind of  "Mesh Enabler" will provide a solution to promote  the imported STL Mesh and point-cloud objects to B-Rep surfeces / solids. This will be fantastic for manufacturing !!

Under the beta agreement that you signed, betas are discussed in the beta forums and not in these public forums.

Actually my reply was to you and jncallen. Once a post has been posted, it is really out there. They can be deleted, but with RSS feeds, the cat is out of the bag. I never delete anything from the internet. The beta.autodesk.com site has forums dedicated to our betas.
