Virtual reality for models created with Autodesk (Inventor) software.

Virtual reality for models created with Autodesk (Inventor) software.

To give our designs an extra dimension we are looking for virtual reality to make it better.

Payable hardware is now available such as Oculus Rift. The missing thing is easy using software to translate Inventor models to usable models/ virtual environment to use this hardware for environments desgined by our own.

It would be great if such software will be available for Autodesk users.

Example 1:

A small engine room, serious filled with equipment. It would be great if we can take a virtual walk through it and see if we can reach important equipment parts for operating & maintanance.

Example 2:

For a ship, design rules are given such as line of sight. Above this line, no equipment may be in front of it. I believe virtual reality can help to determine what we really see if we are standing on the bridge.

Example 3:

Machines, designed with a cabine around and windows in it, can have blind spots. With virtual reality, we can see it before we produce it.

Navisworks supports 3D viewing via DirectX standards, at least in theory.  Not in theory, Navisworks functions well in 2D without the need for barf bags or bumping into the first-nerd problem aka glasses.

"Payable hardware is now available such as Oculus Rift"

Not commonly available, if at all (isn't it still in hardware BETA?), and certainly not implemented on a large enough scale for adoption as a commercial standard.  Several years from now it could be pushed aside for something completely different.  Remember BETAMAX?  Laser video disc?  The "dip" Occulus Rift experienced after the purchase was announced?  That kind of uncertainty gives executives the cold sweats.

Adoption of a Virtual Reality interface is the next logical step in presentation visualizations. It’s common place for a client to expect their project represented in digital formats that include photorealistic images and animations. Sophisticated clients who wish to review their project’s spatial qualities will eventually expect to review it through this new technology. If a professional is already using Autodesk products to build fully realized 3D models in a virtual landscape, it seems inevitable that we will view these assets through an immersive VR interface.

I sincerely hope AutoDesk is developing a Virtual Reality interface for both presentation visualizations, and hopefully a UI that allows for the design of assets in VR.

I was hoping for an implementation in Inv. for the likes of nVidia's 3D goggles and compatible screens. And/or 3D HDMI like between the blueray and tv. Youtube can generate 3D content trough the graphicscard and sent it trough HDMI to a 3D screen/tv. So i would expect IV and it's sister programs like showcase to be able to somehow generate 3D viewable content aswell.
