Title block logo , effective management - application options for idw open.

Linking a title block logo to an external file is nice if you want to make a change to a large qty of files, and also helps minimise file size.

If for various reasons the link is unable to be reconciled at any point in future, then it can make life difficult and have a costly impact on a business. Even if the logo is kept in a library path etc. the issue may still arise, especially if a file server (of a specific name) is unavailable since the file was last saved.

It would be nice to have a simple setting in the application options, or even the project for that matter to allow all future files open actions to specifically choose the logo you designate, without having to resolve it manually for each file. The setting would be specific. It would allow for a toggle, ie, use application option for logo image. Or you may choose to toggle this switch off, to allow a user to obtain the existing title block as it stands from when the idw was last opened.

Many people choose to embed the logo image or to simply use a sketch of a logo to get away form the cost and pain of having to resolve issues on this topic. As with topics like this we find ways to get around them but i thought i would mention it in hope to put an idea like this into practice.

Hmmm, understand what you mean, but don't agree with your suggested implementation.

I'd like to see it implemented more as how we currently do it in AutoCAD; the entire titleblock/drawing border is an xref. I can push out any change required to each and every drawing in a matter of minutes.

I mean, it's the entire concept of creating assemblies in Inventor, where a single standard part file can be consumed by whatever assembly that needs it, why not apply that thinking to the titleblock/drawing border.

Having that content cached locally would be nice for laptop users (or an alternative path for when the network location is not available). An ability to bind would be nice when sending the drawing to someone else.

i see your point. actually i kind of like both of these ideas. i think they would each have merit for certain situations.

the former may help those who have existing data to manage, the later idea could be an option for moving forward.
