Simplified Steel representation in drawing environment

Simplified Steel representation in drawing environment

When you use C-shape channels in your assembly, they don't look like channels in the drawing because channels have a series of tangent edges to make the rounded flange. Turning on tangent lines often clutters the drawing too much. I propose that there is a toggle for "simplified structural steel representation" to make the nominal flange thickness be a single line instead of several tangent lines. See attached photo (I hope it works, because I've been having bad luck attaching on this new revision of the website...what happened to the "insert image" option?).

It took our shop awhile to get used to the extra lines on the structural shapes. But after we explained it to them, they were ok with it. But, "technically" the line should be there. I dont know how they would make inventor show it on some things, but not on others.

How do you add a picture ?     Click the little image icon then browse for the file.

For some reason, none of those buttons were there earlier... and the attachment option was buggy...Now everything is back to normal (without making any changes). Here's a picture of what I want to see:

I'm pretty sure I understand what you want. I agree with karthur1. I dont see how Autodesk could force Inventor to automatically show it on some things, but not on others.

WORKAROUND 1: "hide" the hidden lines you don't want to see.

WORKAROUND 2:

Sketch > Draw or Project lines "nominal flange thickness line" in the model.

If you build these into your template or the content center then it would be easier.

I can't vote, but if I could I would vote for this. This is a big problem in our shop and our team of engineers would love to see some kind of solution other than what's already there.
