Make Import Options Save Configuration an Application Option

Make Import Options Save Configuration an Application Option

Currently the Import Options Save location is only controlled by first selecting the file you want to import and then clicking the Options button, then you'll see the save options at the top of the dialog box.

This allows unknowing users to do this incorrectly and have files saved in a random Imported Components folder. This can cause a mess with file managment, and it would be preferred to be able to set a default mode in the application options that could be managed by the CAD Administrator. Then if the user decides they need  to depart from the default, they can always use the Options button and set the save location as needed.

File management is paramount.  Forcing non-obvious import locations is counterproductive.  More user control is needed in a big way.

This is a needed change. I spend several hours a month chasing down users that have unknowingly created files in the imported components folder. It would be a big improvement to be able to control this in/at the software installation. I would have it set to save the files at the import file location.

Have to be able to save this in the folder you choose

not always in that import folder

I need to be able to associate it with the given part not the project

So somewhere between Inventor 2015 and 2017 the "Import Options" were changed from being an inconspicuous button you had to press before clicking "Open", to instead popping up automatically after you select a file and click "Open". This makes the save location option much more conspicuous and easy to set as desired when importing a file. @Curtis_Waguespack, do you think this resolves the motivation behind this Idea and it could be considered Implemented?

The only problem with the new method, as discussed on this Idea, is that when this was changed Autodesk also, for whatever reason, removed several important options form the "Import Options", including the ability to choose place the top-level Assembly in a different folder. So if you like the new method of displaying the Import Options dialog automatically, but want it to have the same controls that it did before, please consider giving the following Idea a vote: Option when opening step-file (currently 9 votes).

Also, here's another related Idea, which suggests adding a "Prompt for save location on save" option to the "Import Options", so you can specify where to save files upon actually hitting Save for the first time rather than during the Import: Add "Prompt for Save Location" option for importing CAD files (currently 12 votes).
