Foreshortened Dimension for Linear dimensions

Foreshortened Dimension for Linear dimensions

The goal is to add a dimension from a feature in a detail view to a feature outside the view.

Currently the method to achieve this type of dimension is not very discoverable or robust, it would be nice to be able to retrieve a model dimension and then:

  • foreshorten it
  • add the double arrowhead

And to be able to do this from within the drawing without the need of an included workplane, etc.

I provide workaround steps at this link toward the bottom:

Accepted idea [US17013]. Thanks!

It should be noted that this is an industry standard, I believe defined in the DRM and elsewhere.  It has been on the Just Do It list for over 8 years.

This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2015. Special thanks to the author of this Idea and likewise to everyone who cast your Kudo for it. Enhancements have been made within the Drawing Manager environment to provide three new types of Foreshortened Dimension annotations. Linear Foreshortened, Angular Foreshortened and Arc Length Foreshortened dimensions can now be created within drawings. Please be sure to check this out in Autodesk Inventor 2015. Thanks!

Running in to a situation where this idea is close, but not quite there.  Basically want to be able to create dimensions that look like this.

Basically have the ability to turn off the first leader and extention.

I realize this is an old post, but what about making a Symmetric Diameter Dimension Type in drawings?

I should only need to click a centerline and then another line, and it should show both extension lines (the second being "mirrored" from the first).
