Flat pattern of auger flight material

An enhancement for inventor could be to have the ability to create a flat pattern from a helix shaped object (like an auger flight). The aim is to create a more realistic flat pattern. I am currently projecting the contours onto a sketch on a plane that is perpendicular to the axis of the helix. The next step would be to compute for strains/deformations that occur durring bending of such flat material. I believe this can be done using FEA, which is something Autodesk has experience with.
