Eliminate the "Project Geometry" Command

Status: New Idea

Why do we even need this command?  Why when creating a sketch do you have to select a command to

either pick existing geometry or a centerline or plane when needing to constrin to it?

Wouldn't it be easier to be able to just select the existing geometry, axis or plane and select the sketched entity and constrain them?

I find it a major pain when I want to constrain sketched entities to existing geometry, axis and planes to have to use this command in order to do so.

(A) You already can just dimension or constrain from your sketched geometry to an existing non-projected edge or point.

(B) There's other times when projected geometry comes in very useful that don't involve dimensioning or constraining.  Rails for lofts, paths for sweeps for instance.  Re-using geometry on the fly for new features.  Defining center-points for hole patterns.  I'm sure I could come up with more things I use it for.

Rusty,

Let me clarify.  Yes you can do what you said.  I agree that if you want to use the "Project Geometry" command to bring existing edges into a current sketch it is useful for that.  So eliminating it I agree now may not be a good idea, but it should be at the very least tweeked.  If you need to constrain sketched geometry to a plane or axis you should be able to do it without the use of this command.  That is more where I was coming from.  Sorry clarifying that better the first go around.
