truble editing imported mesh

I exported a mesh from Sketchup into Inventor using a third party plug in.

Now I see the mesh and it looks pretty, but I can't edit it. Maybe I'm just Inventor UI illiterate. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Picture is the mesh I imported.

How much experience do you have with Inventor?
How much training do you have with Inventor
Use the imported mesh geometry as reference to model as native Inventor geometry.

Inventor is an expensive and professional software. It deserves a professional level of preparation via training. Most who go through professionally delivered training actually find it to be a very easy program to use. I suggest you find a class near your.

I've already enrolled in 3 autodesk related programs, I start in a week. But that doesn't help solve my immediate problem of why I can not edit this mesh.

I would start with geometry that is far less complex.
In order to edit geometry you should have native sketches and solids/surfaces.
There are other programs that are more suitable to edit the mesh that you have.

You can create some complex geometry in Inventor (see attached image) but you need expert level experience.
My students start out with a beginning geometry using AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks and Pro/E 5hrs/week for 16 weeks. Then they take a surfaces class using AutoCAD, Inventor and SolidWorks for another 5hrs/week for 16 weeks to get to the level of creating attached and this link

There is no Easy Button.

Inventor is more than an art tool like some of the other software you might have used.

If you want more information on using neutral format geometry you might try this

but I don't think it will really help you and I'm not sure you are ready to get anything out of the "book" that could help.

The File you posted was Seventh.dwg which is a point file. The meshed
file in your original Inventor is titled "Fifth". Please send that file,
zipped). Can't do anything with the file you sent.

Google and download a free copy of Caligary truespace. But hurry, it's subject to disappear at any time. It's an organic mesh modeler with nurbs capability. I often use it to work with organic/aerodynamic surfaces then transfer them into Inventor.

You might also try importing a point cloud of your mesh, laying on splines, then lofting the splines into surfaces and finally stitching those surfaces into solids.

Either way, with no experience in either software package, you're in for a tremendous amount of pain learning their in-depth user interfaces, not to mention the extensive tools they provide. Coming in cold on these packages with no training is not for the faint of heart or those who blame the software for their own lack of experience.

I've been using 3D cad since 1980, a wide variety of packages, and still learn something every day. And low-level parametric solids modelers like Inventor and Solidworks are not known for their extensive ability to work with free form surfaces. I miss my ComputerVision days of showing the full UV mesh of a nurbs surface and pushing/pulling all the individual control points at my leisure. 😞

Oh, and I keep a copy of Rhino on my system for related work, also.

Here's your wing in Inventor 2010. See linked video as well. I guess
Inventor does not suck as much as you think.
