tread on tyre

I make a simple tyre in inventor-2013.How do i add tread to the tyre please?

I want to also make rim for the tyre.Is it best to make tyre and rim separate parts and then make assembly or can the rim and tyre be made as 1 part and then separated

Cheers

Rich

Many examples of tyres (tires?) and rims (wheels?) have been posted here in the past.
I think there might even be an example in the samples (tutorials?) folder.

A few searches should turn up some examples.

If you can't find anything - post back for instructions.

I would do the tyre and the rim in one file as multi-body solids and then push out the individual parts if needed as separate parts.

Yes.  Very simple.

You can do a test on your part to get an idea of how simple.

Start a new sketch on the YZ Plane.

Sketch a circle at the Origin.

Type E for extrude (or exit sketch and start the Extrude command).

Find the New Solid option in the Extrude dialog box.

You now have a multi-body solid (notice the folder at the top of the browse that says Solid Bodies (2).

When it comes to time to push out the individual parts go to Manage tab>Make Components.

Everything is associative - so any changes you make to the master multi-body solid will be reflected in the derived components.

Hi richard_cirillo,

As JDMather mentioned here is a tire model from the Inventor samples data set. It should provide a a good idea of how to approach the treads (although there are other methods too).

Note that you will want to click and drag on the End of Part marker and move it down in the model tree to see the feature of this model.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
