tired of placing bolts...

Does anyone know of an add-in (third party) software that has the intellegence to populate my assembly with fasteners??

"Ok - last
reply for this one... nothing against engineers, but... they are not designers.
Really."

That's right they are not designers.  However
it does not mean they can't design.  I'm not going to get into a
verbal contest here but you are making some very bold (and incorrect)
statements.

Which command are you talking about?
Did you ever use Drew's Rivet gun tool in MDT? Insert one bolt, pick the insertion point
on it and start picking holes. Works slick.

As for iMates I really need to find the time to play and understand them more. Currently
they seem like more work than just manually constraining parts.

And yes Sean it was me that suggested adding iMates to the hole dialog. 8^)

that.

That's the theoretical command I was referring to.

No I've never tried the rivit gun tool. Sounds great. I used MDT since Designer R1 but was never privy to these great user groups so that I could learn from others. B-(

Oh well, better late than never.

And here I've spent all this time do'n it the other way around: working for
engineers ... Sheech ... I need to get out more. <G>

But let's not get into a engineers vs. designers
debate...

Thats precisely the problem - it was designed by "engineers" NOT
designers. I would like to sit one of these "engineers" down and watch them
build a machine from start to finish. At the same time dealing with customer
changes and physical machine restrictions. IV6 is a bit better but... example
- exporting the entire bom from the top level assembly.

I don't think I know any engineers that can't
design. What do they do if they don't design stuff? ... We're not just
talking cosmetic design, are we? I know some engineers that don't care
much for that part of it.

Not sure what your point is. Half of my career has been trying to make
something workable out of the %$#*&^% the 'designers' have inflicted.

Oh! Maybe I do get it! If IV had been programmed by Designers it would
be truly unworkable.

Design Engineers right!..........That's
Draughtsmen, they were Designers when they were drawing and Draughtsmen when it
went wrong. The boss says he's chief Design Engineer so there and your the
lad...............and then he say's I am only a Process Engineer when the
pressure's on, I nether wanted the job anyway?!

Can't win can you.

Just to pour a bit of oil into the
fire...

It would be VERY helpful for Adesk to understand
the needs of their customers if they would run a engineering/drafting service
business in every major country out there and poll the user complaints
regularily... And they for sure should push the boss in every of those offices
to earn good money with this business, and this local boss will tell Big Adesk
Boss then how he could make even more money if he had a more efficient
tool...

This is how poor little Leo from the mountains
believes how things could grow better...

For once I agree with you Leo, well I do most of
the time, wouldn't that be great if the boss's actually were interested in
engineering in general (electrical and mechanical) I do believe that no where
else has the decline in mechanical manufacture taken a country ( GB
) down to near extinction.  Even if you ere on the side of pessimism,
the good thing is that there are enough optimists here to drag you kicking and
screaming back into the light 🙂

Is there a spare bunk and desk in your cabin <g> Can't ski
though.

I just stumbled over a neat trick while inserting a bunch of fasteners:

1/ Copy a fastener
2/ Paste the fastener
3/ Open the constraint dialog box and constrain the fastener
4/ While the constraint dialog box is open, paste another occurrence of
the fastener.

Not huge but it saves a click or two when placing fasteners in tricky
places that require view changes.
