stress analysis contract type for parts that are connected by screw

Hi,

I'm new to stress analysis in inventor. Imagine there is a rectangular plates and a solid cyclinder . They are bolted together by 4x 1/2 -13 screw. The oder end of the cyclinder is subjected to a pulling force, while the other end of the plate is fixed. For the contact between the plate and the cyclinder, which contact type should i use? Bonded or seperation ? and why?

Any help is appriciated.

Can you post a picture or screen shot of what you want.

Something like this. What I want to know is what is the best contact type for the face where the cylinder touch the square piece.

Do you really need to do FEA on this? It's a rather simple axial load on the four bolts unless there is something with the inside of the cylinder or other end that is not shown in the picture.

Are you trying to analyze the 4 bolts that connect the two pieces?

yes, this is a simplification.  I really can't show you the assembly, so I quickly make something up that are similar to what I am trying to analyze.

Imagine if you have a bigger assembly, with parts and are screw or bolt together. How would you know which type of contact to specify between parts to give you the most accurate result?

I might move it into Simulation Mechanical or Dynamic Sim if I have a number of parts and movement (force and vector) and I am dealing with more complex dynamic loads.

I could just constrain the bolt hole and apply a force load on the end of the cylinder to analize the cylinder if all load/force vectors are axial.
