spaceball 5000

I am finding the serial spaceball 5000 really good for the 3D environment
but it has killed my performance in idw's. Any idea how to stop it from
working in idw's or at least improve the performance?

Just dowloaded and installed the latest spaceball driver -
3DxWare_v3-5-15_win32_reg.exe
nVidia Quadro4 550 4072 driver.
win 2000 SP3

I don't use it in the IDW environment and have not noticed any
performance issues. If you think it is affecting your machine's
performance, got to Start>Programs>3dconnexion>3Dware>Stop Driver. To
restart later go to same location and select Start Driver.
