solid vs. hollow export problems

I'm having difficulty exporting files from Inventor and importing them into Autodesk's Showcase application. When I try to import a .iam file, or even when one of my files is converted to iges or step, a cross section taken in Showcase reveals a hollow part. Why would importing Inventor geometry in Showcase produce hollow parts? When exporting I'm choosing "output solids as: solids" option, as opposed to surfaces or wireframes.

I have attached two files, one clearly showing a solid model in Inventor, and another demonstrating that when it's imported into Showcase, the cylinder becomes hollow. How do I create a solid cross section in Showcase? Am I importing incorrectly? I've posted this on the Showcase forums as well, but the Inventor forum seems to get more attention.
