setting default units Inventor 2013

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do the following:

set my units to inches so I can enter dimensions in inches and see them displayed in inches.

Please help?

Thanks

Depending on the version of Inventor you are running, there's either a "Configure default templates" button at the bottom of the Welcome screen (and if you closed it, just open it again from the Get Started tab).

If it's an older version, open your part & assembly template files and find Tools > Document Settings - then find the Units tab.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the 2013 professional verson.

See the attached .pdf screenshot attached to this message.

There is no way (that I can find) to change the dimensions / units to fractions.

Thank you!!

However, it appears I have to do this for every dimension.

How can I set up a template or change an exiisting document to default to fractions?

Inventor 2013 doesn't seem to allow a global change as did ACAD... where you could set the default units to ANSI / Fractions... and set the denominator to 1/64..

Ulltimatly, I could set up my own template if I could find a way to do this simple (what should be) task. I have over 3 hours into this problem...

Thanks again,

Dennis

It also appears when I am editing some sketches, the option in the dimension dialog box does not offer fractions.

Post example here.

Is there a reason you need to have on-screen in fractional form?

You can always simply enter the fraction ie 1/2 and Inventor will convert it to decimal form.

If you double click on the dimesion you will see the original fraction.

There is a reason and its a very good one.

It doesn't make sence that every version of autocad I have ever used allowed the user to use and view fractions. Yet the 2013 verson of Inventor does not allow this simple and convenient commonly used tool?

Tell me it isin't so...

Inventor isn't AutoCAD.

For the rest of your questions it would probably be more efficient to ask before investing so much time.

The point I am making is every version of autocad had the option to use fractions. I believe Audodesk inventor version 2010 also allowed that particular capabillty. A very easy and useful function.

I'm stuck using inventor 2013 in an educational setting where this function is very handy. It's a time saving and logical option. Not having it is proving to be a nucance.

I'll be purchasing solidworks the next time around.

I think your advice on not investing too much time is arrogant.

Can you explain to me how to do this in SolidWorks, I can't figure it out.

Is this discussion about sketch dimensions or 2D drawing dimensions?

Because if it is really about 2D drawing dimensions - that can be set to fractional.

It is best to be very careful about formulating questions.
In your original post you didn't even state anything about fractions.

Maybe it would be best to attach a sample dataset so that we are all talking about the same thing.
