more contrast on inventor file icons

Using Inventor 2010

I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Not the ipt, idw, and iam file icons are difficult to distinguish between when your in a hurry.

There used to be more contrast and color between the different file types

Is there a setting for this somewhere in Inventor or Windows for this?

This is how they look below.

is that screen shot from an Inventor window or windows explorer, as mine look nothing like that and any option I try does not give me that look. maent the OP's screen shot, but maybe because I am using 2011.

my assembly and part icons:

Try switching to small icons or medium icons dech99. To do that open a window and right click a blank area inside and choose view.

That's from windows explorer. Are you trying to change it in Inventor's browser?

Inventor file icons are the only ones that I have this problem on.
I have looked in Inventor and in Windows to find a setting with no success as of yet.
Not sure exactly where to go to change the icon settings.

Thanks

yah, now that I think about it 2010 icons displayed that way. You can right-click inside the directory window, choose view, then try the different options till you find one you like. or use the highlighted slider. Medium or large icons will more than likely give you a preview of the contents.

I forgot that I have my settings in Windows set to get rid of all that fancy looking semi-transparent crap.

I have tried changing the detail settings and size of icons as you described
But the icons still look as shown below.

[cid:image003.png@01CE4673.90D0F600]

The icons shown below are what I used to have. I liked those.

I am beginning to think that there is not a way to change this.

Edit:

Nevermind. From your last post, It looks like you did this already.

Hi desch99,

It might also help to turn on the file extensions. Windows 7 is better about renaming, etc. with file extensions on than XP was:

  1. Start Windows Explorer, you can do this by opening up any folder.
  2. Click Organize.
  3. Click Folder and search options.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. Scroll down until you notice Hide extensions for known file types, un-check this line by clicking the check box.
Note To hide file name extensions, check this line.
  6. Click OK

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Is Inventor set as your default application for these files?

IIRC, they changed them to those for a release and then changed them to the high contrast ones after much user complaining. I can't remember exactly when, but I suspect it was from 2010 to 2011.

If I understand the OP correctly (I probably don't); he had 2010 on XP, then changed to 2010 on Win 7.

I don't think you can desch, i think they went to that type of icon for 2010 and then switched back in 2011 after as cmc noted a lot of complaining. Thin you are stuck with them until you upgrade to 2011 or later. let me look into it as we can always see about replacing them with custom icons.

With a little effort and a free program you can indeed change your icons. Doesn't look too complicated.
