kNOWN ISSUES WITH OPENING A R5.3 IN R6?

I have a coworker who uninstalled 5.3 on his machine and installed 6.0, he
claims he is opening, viewing, measuring, but not saving, so as to presearve
5.3 version. Any known issues with this? I already told him to stop, and
remove 6 until further notice.

As long as he doesn't save there is no problem. Why not just use r6? With
SP1 it is fine.

I have to disagree with you Kim. It is NOT fine. For those of us who used
to use shaded views in our idw's, IV6 is far from "fine". Modeling has
vastly improved with the introduction of embossing and decals!

Horizontal and vertical dashed "indicator" lines are incredibly hard to
see - INCREDIBLY hard to see!! (as are center points for holes) Yellow is a
terrible color to use! If we have an option to change the color, I'm not
aware of it. Can't recall the visibility in IV5.3. Modeling has improved,
presentations (2D) have regressed. Better than 5.3 in most ways - but I'm
at a standstill in some of my presentation drawings until the shaded view
issues are resolved. I have to revert back to "non-shaded, hidden line
removed" views. YECH!!

Technically it won't migrate till you save but I wouldn't risk it if you
need the data in 5.3 format. One button and POOF, it's gone baby!

If my memory serves me correctly we had about the same scenario when we went from 5 to 5.3. I had one user with 5.3 and when anything was even loaded it got tagged 5.3 even with out a save! Did you try loading anything back onto 5.3 after it "visited" 6?

As far as colors are concerned, you could always try out Patrick's "Color Scheme
Organizer".

I just did a quick test.  Opened a 5.3 part in
R6SP1.  Added some features, changed some features etc. then exited with no
save.  It opened up in 5.3 without complaints.  I'd still be VERY
careful however..

Put down the mouse, step away from the
computer...

If you have 5.3 back ups what does it matter
all this worry for nothing if you make back ups put them away till Inventor 7.0 then get rid of the 5.3 and start over with back up of 6.0 till 8.0 then back up 7.0 and so on I have back ups of all mine from 4.0 I'll get rid of those some day

I agree but there are a lot of people who
(foolishly) don't make backups of their data...

LOL....  believe me......  if I could I
would....  my boss's attitude is that i should write a proceedure...
because, when its in black and white people will read and follow the
rules... sure...  and when there is an issue with the software, I get
blamed for introducing Inventor to the company.... its time for me to move on I
think...  sour grapes? no, sour grapevine...
