I work for a company that makes custom equipment. We used to make layouts/assemblies that had all the parts on their own layer. That way we could turn parts on and off and see what we wanted to.
I found a way to do this but it is VERY cumbersome. Does anyone know if there is a macro that will do something like this?
What I would like the program to do ideally:
1. Create a layer for each part in the drawing. (for example: A21233)
2. Change all the lines for that part onto their own layer. (currently they have to be picked individually in the browser for each view)
3. Change the layers so they alternate colors.
We have a terminal out where our assemblers are and they would really like this feature. We currently have it set-up for them to use Autodesk Design Review, but they tend to avoid it like the plague for some reason. It would also make the layouts easier for them to look at and see what part is what.
Thanks in advance for anyone who might have a useful tip.
This was 6 years ago, does anyone know if something more has been done with automating this process? Thanks!
"Something on my list of things I'd like to provide. There are no automated
tools at this time, but you can do this manually.
Create the layers you needs (I'm not sure, but you might be able to automate
that task through the API), then in your browser, RMB on each component and
pick "select as edges" then select the desired layer from the pull-down
menu.
Not elegant, but this is a workflow we'll be enhancing in the future.
Hope that helps,
