iParts...

when making an iPart of a rod with only varying lengths, is it possible when
bringing it into an assy to type in a value for the length rather than
creating it first in the table? creating lengths on the fly seems more
productive than making like 100 predetermined sizes in a table.

Look into custom iParts AKA iPart Templates. Thats what you are describing.

Read my FAQ 9407 for more info http://www.mymcad.com/

I'm sure Sean has stuff on his site too. www.sdotson.com

Your custom property column cannot also be a key. Try that, if it still
doesn't work post it to CF and I'll have a look.

...it's not a key by default. for instance, when we bring over the length
parameter, a key icon is made. we click on the icon and by default, the "Do

that is normal. Do you have a key defined elsewhere such as part # or name?

...well, yes and no. we want the part number and description to be added
eventually, but it is not defined yet in the ipart table. we are just trying
to get one parameter to work without errors first. the part number and
decryption, however, is filled in in the iproperties section.

try filling in one columns (part #, description etc..) with just garbage
(but unique garbage) like 1,2,3,4 etc.. and set that as a key to test.
iParts are a bit finicky till they are completely done.

If you post it I can take a look

I have replied in CF. By setting one column to a key it works. You need to
have at least one key column when using custom parameters in iparts. Each
row in the custom parameters column should be the same value (since you are
going to edit it anyway).

You mean your company name in the length column? That won't work. It will
need to be a valid length...(1in, 2in etc..)

no...the "company" property in iProperties. if i add that to the table
(after i put some info in through iProperties) and then make it key 1
everything works fine. basically, i must do what you have already stated.
make a key first than add you aother fields...

OK, yes if you make it the key it will work out fine. Just realize that you
won't be able to have each part have a custom description if you have non
unique keys. There will only be one listing in the tree table.

Glad you got it working...
