how to show cut / uncut material

How can I show uncut and cut material using the same ipt and/or iam file.

A customer is designing a wheel with some knives. These knives are first
laser cut. Then the wheel is assembled and the assembly is turned to final
tolerances.

Is it possible to make different views in idw. One view for cut material and
one view for finished part?

Regards

I haven't tried anything like this yet but it sounds like the perfect opportunity to try out the assembly features. Create an assembly, drop your unground knife in it. Create the grinding with assembly features. Show both the part and the assembly in the drawing. - Rich Thomas

In addition to Rich's suggestion you might also look at derived parts. This
is the process I use to show pre/post machining operations. Make part of
the unfinished knife then derive the part and add the features to show it
finished. If you change the basic base part (unfinished) the derived part
(finished knife) will update to follow the changes.
