Hi Paula,

When you say the Mini Toolbar are you referring to the Marking Menu? This can be Turned off from Tools>Customize" Use Classic UI"

As for the Select other Unfortunately there is not option to turn it off, best you can do is set the time to 10 seconds in the App Options> General Tab.

I would also log a Suggestion request.

Roberto,
Do you work for Autodesk?

As a "Product Support Team Lead" and a "Certified Support Professional" (be it for Autodesk or a reseller) I would expect you to know the difference between the Mini Toolbar and the Marking Menu. They are not the same thing, and the Mini Toolbar can not be turned off, because Autodesk didn't provide an option to do so, even though it's pretty obvious to anyone that actually uses Inventor that it should have such an option.

As for the select other command, do you really think setting it to delay solves anything? The OP is asking about a way to set the select other command to act like it did in the past, so that he is not presented with an endless list of the same choices that can not be distinguished from one another, as it is currently. It wasn't a great command in 2011 and earlier, but it was better than this improved version.

for example, when doing a constraint, you select both features, and then this floating toolbar popsup (where before you type in the distance of the constraint) and the delay doesnt help on the other issue

HI,

Thanks for the Clarification I was not very clear on the question asked, and as a Generalist in the product I attempted to answer. What I can do is get an Expert and comment .

What Roberto was trying to say here was these are good wishlist items for development. As far as the select other tool, please see the following post:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Switch-off-select-other-in-Inventor/m-p/2703045/high...

What he was also doing was probing to find out exactly the nature of the original poster’s issue because the marking menu and the mini toolbar are easily confused. For more on the mini toolbar see these posts:

Thank you.

Thank you for that update, Paula. The wishlist is having the option to enable or disable these in the options or elsewhere. Thank you for your comments and feedback!

I applogize if I was too harsh on Roberto (reading back over it I think I was).

But these things are very important to users and Autodesk keeps making these changes despite the feedback that users provide, and then the autodesk support staff field post like this and say, "we've noted the issue, blah blah blah", and NOTHING is ever done to fix the problem ever again.

I read on another forum that many of the most experinced Inventor users (such as Charles Bliss) had objected to the change of the select other command in beta testing and yet Autodesk pushed it through anyway. And now we're stuck with it. And I have NO confidence that Roberto or Daren or anyone at Autodesk will do anything other than "log" the issue, and suggest that users go to the provided link to do the same.

We've watched this kind of thing go on for years, and although I don't intend to beat up the Autodesk staff that answer these posts who are just doing their job, someone at Autodesk needs to step up and take care of these things. And if that means Autodesk needs to stop hiring "Generalist in the product" and bring in people who know the product in depth than so be it.

I only saw this post now after having my own little private rant about the Mini-Toolbar.

If Autodesk's programmers have so much time to come up with a (unfortuantely incomplete) interface "enhancement", why can't they spend another two minutes to implement a simple option to use or not use the Mini-Toobar?

YES! All these socalled improvements which just clutters the screen and keeps requiring you to answer YES or NO again and again and click here there and everywhere... damned irritating and useless!

Message 16 of 22

These so called improvements are actually product regressions purposely done to string everyone along & keep them on subscription. Then in the future these regressions are fixed & added to the annual what's new in Inventor.

The mini-toolbars and Select Other are working well for me, and I'm looking forward to the expanded use of mini-toolbars in 2013.  What's the problem?  Now the tools are right there on the screen where you need them-- not so much movement required.

How are the mini toolbars any closer than the dialog box? I'm all for improvements, but I don't see how the mini toolbars improve anything. All it does is make Inventor look better in marketing brochures and put more BS on my display.

Thankfully, the commands I use most haven't been "tooled up" yet.

I've got a very large screen (30"), and the dialog boxes tend to be a long way from my cursor, or else obscuring the area where I want to work.  The mini-toolbars are always close to my cursor, which I find to be helpful.  The only thing I don't like about them is that most choices are in slam-down menus, requiring an extra click to access.  But this is still preferable to a long mouse move to make the same choice in a dialog box.

Well, I can understand that working for you, then. However, for those of us using a standard size monitor having a dialog box and a worthless mini toolbar right next to each other is a silly redundency.

How would you feel about it if, instead of a mini toolbar, AutoDesk simply had the dialog box pop up next to your cursor? Would you still see value in the mini toolbar?
