help needed to model this part correctly

Hello,

I am new to Inventor 2014 and have model up a part. How best can i model this part and make improvements to the way i perform the tasks. Can this part be made better, simpler and if yes what do i need to change?

I am sure there are errors that would need addressing.

Regards

Andrew

Mostly a pretty good job.

I see some areas that can be improved and I suspect a couple of errors.

Do you intend uniform 15mm wall thickness except for the flange?

What about where the fillets are (looks like missing internal fillets to maintain constant wall thickness.

(I temporarily removed some fillets in this image.)

It looks like you have used Lofts where Revolves would work.

I will try to work up an example of how I might model the part.

Examine the sketches in this one.

Notice that you can delete all of the features without the sketches "going sick".

Hi! I agree with JD that the part was done well. But, I would do it slightly differently to reduce the number of features. The part body is generally uniform in thickness. I would leave the hollowing task to shell instead of creating sweep cuts. The lofts seem like an overkill to me, considering the sections are the same. Lastly, I would create fillets toward the end of the feature tree. This would make shape editing more easily.

The ideal feature tree for this part should go like this: Revolve -> Sweep (2) -> Shell -> Fillet.

Thanks!

I now added Revolution 6 to the part.Is this added to the part correctly?

Is there a method other then Mirror to copy/move Revolution 6 to Sweep 2...

Thanks

Andrew

A work of art, a thing of beauty.

You must have had some experience before moving to Inventor.

Attached is how I would mirror the flange.

How did you decide on where to locate the origin center point?

Ideally you would locate such that the origin planes are used for symmetry like mirroring features, revolving about origin axis....

Good job!
