balloon numbers don't match the BOM item numbers

Hello,

I am trying to link my parts list to a drawing however all balloons have different numbers.

I open the assembly and check everything out from vault I open my bom and change item numbers. When I get back to my drawing and apply for auto balloon I get completely different item numbers in my balloons. Has anybody got any idea what is causing this? We just updated our software to a new 2012 version so it's maybe something with set up.

Hi

You have to pay attention to BOM view that you are chosen to represent Balloon.

If you renumber balloon in PARTS ONLY BOM tab you also have to select  PARTS ONLY in balloon dialog box.

If you renumber in STRUCTURED BOM tab you must use the Structured during balloon process.

Hello,

Thank you for your concern.

See what the bom displays below as "parts only"

This image shows the parts list generated in the drawing for the above assebmly. Note this parts list was generated as  "parts only" option to match the above BOM and it doesn't

I don't get the option to create balloons as "parts only" because of this option is greyed out

Thats the reason!

You must detele them and reapply the baloons with Parts Only view.

I actually managed to create the parts only balloons but they still don't match the BOM "parts only tab" numbering as per my picture above. Another thing is that my colleagues can open the BOM when they right click on the parts list but I don't get this option. There must be something wrong with the set up and old versions of assemblies created in 2009 version of Inventor. I am sure it will be one tick and everything will be sorted but I have no idea what this can cause. I am running on XP's and my colleagues have windows 7 but I doubt that this would make any difference.

Try migrate first the assembly file using Task Scheduler Inventor tool (Start \ All Programs \ Autodesk \ Autodesk Inventor 2012 \ Tools \ Task Scheduler)

(must have a backup first, because when files are migrated to 2012 release you cannot open again in old inventor releases)

You can do the same with files created in Inventor 2012 release?

You have installed 2012 service pack 1?

Okey I managed to crack this nut! The problem was our update from 2009 to 2012 as expected. All what I needed to do was to check the assmebly out from vault move one of the views to get the message asking me if I want to change the assembly then click "yes to all" and check it back into vault. Inventor 2012 cannot read drawings from 2009 version and it is very anoying. Nothing works properly unless you update your drawing and 3d model to a current version. This sucks!

Thanks for your time and advice! ( I presume it's all done on purpose by Audesk developers so people have to go and buy new version of Inventor)

I understand that once you want to renumber the assembly items it is a editing task (so...new release to Vault), its very understandable that Inventor have to get the files checked out from the Vault, doesn't it?

or i missing something?

You can check out them from the vault but it won't make any difference. You need to update your drawing to a new version of inventor in order to make some changes.
