assigning more memory to inventor in windows 7 - 64bit

Hello...

We're experiencing some troubles with large assemblies in inventor.

When i check the "processes" in windows task manager i can see that inventor is using 2GB of memory, while we have 12Gb installed.

Is there a way to make inventor use more of the available memory?

our machines are:

HP Z400

Windows 7 - 64b

nvidia quadro FX3800

autodesk routed systems 2011

thanks in advance for any tips.

Inventor 2011 64 bit version is designed to use all (limit is very high) the available RAM memory present in a 64 bit OS machine.
Verify how much memory your OS actually see, there are some issues with some OS versions. Maybe your OS doesn't recognize all the installed RAM.

Might just be thats what Inventor needs.. You might be limited/having issues because of other factors like CPU/Hard drive,etc...

I was a CAD administrator at my last contract, and we used the HP Z400. The last time I checked, the Z400 was the top machine in the Inventor performance tests. RAM usage depended on the assembly and the type of work. My machine had 12 GB RAM, and it would use 2-4 GB on a 20, 000 part assembly, 6+ GB on a 50,000 part assembly, and10 GB on a 150,000 part assembly. Another machine had 16 GB, and Inventor would use 14+ GB on the same 150,000 part assembly.

Graphics are a significant performance hit. There is debate about whether you need a workstation graphics card, but it would be worth trying the latest generation of gaming cards. I saw test results that indicated the new cards have a 150% performance gain over older cards.

I did a lot of large assembly performance testing, and I posted several times in the last ~6 months under my Loren_J work account.
