assembly extrude

I have a part in an assembly that I would like to use one of the faces as a termination. What I'm trying to do is...
I placed a part in an assembly and I want to create a new part that the extrusion for the new part terminates on the face of the other part. I created a sketch for the extrusion on a plane made from the other part. I then projected some geometry. I cannot select the face I want to terminate on. What is the right way to do this? Does this make any sense.

I suspect your face is non-planar.

While in edit part mode, did you try to use the
promote command (the icon with the two small squares and the red arrow between
them)? This brings a copy of the face from one part into the other.

Once this is done, you can just extrude to the
copied face.

I tried this but the promote command is not available
in the edit part mode. Maybe I'm not doing this correctly.
I'm going to post the file in CF and you'll know what I mean.

The file you posted is missing one of the parts
