appearance

added a mesh look to the part.

inside where the mesh is added the color is grey.Do i also add the texture to the inside.

What i should be asking is this appearance applied properly?

I suggest you go the other away around and make the part properties the expanded metal and then change the face properties of those faces you DON'T want as expanded metal.

 

Another option is multi-body solids.  (I suspect you will have to use multi-body on this.)

 

It also helps to place in assembly and have some other part behind this part so that you see the part behind.

Yes (in the same part file).

That certainly solved the appearance.....do you know of a pattern which has holes all the round
