Yes, I was in a meeting with an Autodesk Rep last week and while discussing the upcoming release of Inventor 2010 I asked if in the new release of both Inventor and REVIT it would be possible to import in REVIT native IPT files from inventor and keep the parametric intellegence.
He said...there will be a new adsk file format which will be more...."robust", ....that is all I know.

The file extensions are the same, and no, they will not be
backward compatible, just like all the other modelers.

*.ADSK is an exchange file format used in the AEC Exchange part of Inventor 2010 to get products out to Revit. In Revit the *.ADSK file format is used to author files for use in 3D Civil and so on.

Look up AEC exchange in the help for 2010 for more info.

The new .adsk extension is done through the AEC Exchange Application inside Inventor. The adsk provides more streamlined dumping to Revit Families.

As some stated, review the Help for AEC Exchange to
read about .ADSK files. This file format allows you to share Inventor data with
Revit MEP or AutoCAD MEP. The format includes the 3D solids, 2D views, AEC
Exchange connector information, and meta data. When opened in Revit or AutoCAD
MEP, that application only uses what is supported from that file.

If exchanging data with Revit or AutoCAD MEP, don't
forget to use shrinkwrap to simplify your data. It makes for smaller file sizes
and the MEP applications typically don't need the detail that Inventor
needs.

Hope this helps.

I tested the file transfer in 2010. It appears that Revit
Structure 2010 x64 does not support the adsk format.
