You know that feeling you get ...

when you're about to start making drawings of a large, complex assembly? I relate it to the same feeling I would get if I was about to have my wisdom teeth pulled. I know it has to be done, but it's not going to be fun. Why is it that modeling is so easy, but making drawings is so hard?

What are you having trouble with? Is it just the speed? I dread having to
detail anything (large or small) with AutoCAD now.

Yeah, what Cory said.

I find detailing in Inventor much better on my
wrist than MDT.

If you are having problems other than with speed,
perhaps we can point you toward a new work methodology.

Yes, speed is the main, biggest, and glaringly obvious problem. I have an assembly that opens in under one minute. The drawing for this file took 39 minutes just to open. It had one sheet and six views. You try to make enough views of a machine so that the guys in the shop can assemble it. But it takes soooooo long. And most of the time you're just sitting there looking at the screen while the computer chomps away at who knows what. I use all shaded views because otherwise I'd have to wait for precise view generation. And I know all about using design views. I use them as much as I can. Other than that I am open to suggestions.

Suggestion 1 - You could not use precise view gen.
by default, then when you think you are close to being done, rmb on your view
and click "make precise".

How many parts?
Average Complexity (Prismatic) ?
Above average complexity? (swoopy with fillets)
Any step or other foriegn source parts?
Did the assy use pre-r6 standard content?
Are there any section views?

Are there subs? Can you make views of the subs quickly? If so , see if one
sub takes noticably longer than others, then narrow down in that sub to try
and isolate a potential bad part.

Does a brand new IDW (with autodesks template) with similar views of the top
assy take as long to create and then re-open?
