Here are the URLs for the new groups. The first listed per group
is the HTTP internet URL, the second is the NNTP newsgroup reader
URL.

This is really great and all, but...

Did you have any discussion regarding splitting up
the Inventor groups based on area of support rather than by version?  I
mean, Inventor modeling, assembly modeling, graphics, etc.

If you have discussed this and dismissed it, fine,
I'm sure you have valid reason.  If not, can you discuss the merits inside
Autodesk?

Hear, hear! I suggested something similar back in March.

How does one know when to post to which newsgroup? Individuals with R5.3
will likely mainly post to the 5.3 newsgroup, and individuals with R6 will
mainly post to the 6 newsgroup, resulting in quite a bit of redundancy.

Anybody think of a
AutoDesk.inventor.customization.  It would make thing a lot more simple for
everyone.

Now that's a group that needs to be split up!

Not sure I like this new NG setup. I like to stay informed on all aspects of IV including all versions. Sometimes good info in 5.3 will work in 6 and vice-versa so now I have to jaunt back and forth between 3 NG's to stay informed and occassionally help (yes that's what I TRY to do).

Yeah... No. This was not a good idea. If I have a problem in 5.3, and the gurus are hanging out in 6.0, it is likely that I will not get the help that I am looking for. You might consider discussing these kinds of things WITH the forum users. Granted, Autodesk doesn't have to have a forum at all but, then again, I don't have to purchase Autodesk products.

I agree. If I have a problem with 5.3 and all the great users are in 6.0, I won't get the support I need. It would have been much better as someone stated earlier to break it up into SM, Drawings, Assemblies, Modeling, etc. This stinks.

I believe your worries are unfounded. I have noticed that several regulars
on the newsgroups have been posting in more than 1 group - which would lead
me to believe that they (like me-not saying I'm a guru) are watching the 3
groups.

Don't much care for that idea either. I count at least 7 (10 or more now with the new R6 features) groups that would be created using that method. What about iProperties questions or really any question that might not fall into any specific area of IV but is still IV related. Just to grab one from today, what about Derived part question...part or assy question?

What was so bad about everyone enjoying a single NG on IV? If you needed specific info you just use the search ability in your NG reader.

My $.02 worth (ok, I've made 2 posts on this subject so I guess I'm up to $.04). I wouldn't mind if Autodesk considered this a pilot program and returned us to a single NG sometime.

Yes, I'm sure most of us will still peruse between the different NG's but why should we have to? As I mentioned above...just do a NG search using your reader to find your info.

I use outlook express and I haven't had very good luck searching with it.
If I have to search , I use Google Groups. I find it more productive.
