View details in IDW

Hello there,

given I do a foreshortened view. Is there a way to fit the shortenings parameters to a view in a different window with a different reference file?

If not it would be a little awkward to achieve exactly the same result with a different file. As replacing references does´nt work with single view

representation I´m stuck with manual- non constrained alignment of view details... which can´t be right I guess.

Would be really helpful if there was a way to do it "right" without the need to switch to AutoCAD.

Kind regards

Daniel

Daniel,

Sounds like you are talking about a broken view and you want to change the model reference to that without changing the mother view?

If that is the case I do not know of a way to do that.

If not, I agree with the others in that posting images would help.

I don't think there is any way to dimension the Break lines. Even creating a sketch and trying to project them fails.

Why do you want to do this?

Hello there,

finally a picture to make my explanation work...

It´s a pity, there is no option to dimension the foreshortened view. I tried

to clone the "shortened" view to later change the file path of the reference,

in the copy, but Inventor block´s that option.

Therefore I did not manage. I think I could put all the cranes in one assembly

and use different views for an overlay, but I really don´t think it´s fun to handle

about 250 MB for each crane in one huge IAM file.

Such a pity...

Create your base, view, then shorten it. Then create your secondary views from this base view. They will be the same height and the shorten will be in the same place. You can always drag the view to another sheet in the browser window.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file
