Video Compression query

Hi,
I've been recording an AVI of a presentation in IV9, and only two of the 'video compressor' options (Cinepak Codec by Radius and Microsoft video 1) save a proper file, all the others come out as 0kb.
The problem is that the output quality of the two files I am able to produce isn't as good as I had got before on a previous version using one of the other compression types....
Anyone know why the other options won't work anymore?

I'm not sure if all of the other options ever worked.

I do know that internally many of us have been downloading either the DivX
or the TechSmith codecs which yield much higher compression ratios.

I also know that some changes were being made to the codec selection
process. These should be available in a future release.

Hi Gary,

Since a lot of AD staff have been downloading and using 3rd party codec's
then I presume you understand how important this is to "realistically" use
the record feature. Is there any possibility of having a deal with one of
the good codec suppliers so it is installed and could be used right away
with an Inventor install. Would kinda make sense if most people need it
anyway...

Okay, i've downloaded the Techsmith and DivX codec's.
I've tried recording using the Techsmith one and it makes Inventor crash a few sequences in.
I've had no joy with the DivX one either, it goes through the motions okay and saves the file but it's at 0kb like the other dodgy ones, it has nothing in it?
The only one i've been able to produce thats any good is full frames uncompressed and the IT police hate me......

I know that the TechSmith "free" codec was only to view video that had been
created with their compression technology. If you want to create material
using their compression technology you need to purchase product from them.

The DivX codec that I loaded is version 5.2.1 (I don't know what their
current version is or their current download policy). I do know that I did
NOT install the "pro" version (which although free in the download, you
would eventually need to buy).

I located the DivX info by digging down through the Program Files/DivX
directory and reading the README.txt
