Vault & Machine Programmers

I posted this in the Vault NG but got no takers so I'm trying here. Can any of you who use the Vault explain to me how your machine programmers get current geometry? Our programmers don't have Inventor so they can't use the Vault. Thanks, -- Dave Hoder Product Design Engineer idX Seattle www.idxcorporation.com

The way autodesk would like you to access it is with a product called ProductStream.. there is a viewer (QVP) version called "ProductStream Reviewer". Alternatively, if you have floating Inventor licences you could install an IV on their workstation allowing the vault explorer to be installed. Currently, running vault explorer doesnt use an IV licence but i am sure that hole will be plugged in future releases. -- Drew Fulford, B.A.Sc. So if you don't have a floating network licence version you could install a 30 day trial anyway on the machine programmers pc. Vault Explorer will still work when the 30 day trial expires. I don't think we'd want to steer an entire corporation into a hole that as Drew says "Will probably be plugged". This little faux pas renders the Vault & all of it's perceived benefits completely useless. Product Stream looks like the drunken bum father of Vault - no job, no home & no where to go. There's no information about the product on the web site, just a form you can fill out so you can have the pleasure of talking to one those fine marketing people & besides, we already have iCenter which does more for us than Product Stream would (except fetch a current geometry set). Hmmm, this sucks. Back to the drawing board. > There's no information about the product on the web site, just a form > you can fill out so you can ... Oh there's some info now 🙂 Just not nearly enough. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=4831075 BTW That page makes no mention of the "reviewer" version, just the "creator" version. Regarding Richard's suggestion on the trial CD, I am pretty confident that would violate some licence agreement somewhere ;) -- Drew Fulford, B.A.Sc. As far as I know I don't think so. If it is I apologise. It's not as if you are actually using Inventor. It's just to get over the Vault install issue. And vault uses Inventor View to view the files. There are no licencing issues with Vault (CDilla\FlexLM) at the moment, but as you mention this could change in the future...... depending on which way Autodesk's wind is blowing at the time.
