VIZ4 Inventor6 Plugin

Hello all
is there anybody using viz4 and inventor ?
there is a special plugin to import inventor-files in viz4.
i can install and start the import-function but it aborts with the following message:
C:\programme\Autodesk VIZ 4
Unable to load Autodesk Inventor libraries! Import of selected Inventor file will be aborted.

we use VIZ4,2 SP 2 and Inventor 2 SP1 Build 106c (german)
i also tried it with inventor 5 and got the same error.

if you don't have problems, please tell me the versions you use.

Any tips ????

(i think it's a bug , Autodesk are you listening)

I'm using Max 5.1, but I believe the setup is the
same. Two things come to mind... the Max/Viz plugin comes with files that
support older versions (3, 4, 5) are you using the correct one? Check to make
sure you don't have a redundant plugin path in Viz, this has caused problems for
me in the past.

Hi Andreas,

First I assume that you mistyped the version number
for Inventor.  You aren't really on version 2, are you?

The update that Patrick pointed out should work
fine with Inverntor 6 Sp1.  Follow the setup instructions that are provided
in the readme.txt.  Note the names of the plugin files have changed and we
now recomend that you use the start-up script with Viz 4 and remove
your plug-in path for the Inventor plug-in.  You should probably
remove the old versions of the plugin files from you Inventor/bin directory as
well.

There are compatibility concerns so you need to
have the correct version/service pack number for the plugin that matches up with
the correct version/service pack of Inventor that you have
installed.

I can say that we are working on the issue.  I
am not in a position to coment on when updates are planned.

Hi Wayne,Patrick, Andrew

You are right, of course we use Inventor 6 SP1.

next question: the update Patrick pointed out should work or
does work ?! is there anybody who really tried it ?
We used this updated plugin and i'm quite sure i have done a correct installation. If you make mistakes (using wrong files etc.) you will not be able to start the import-function.
In my case viz4 is loading the plugin without errors and i can start the import-function, choose a inventor-file, get the first dialogbox, click ok and then i get the error message (see above)
My dealer in germany get's the same error !!! and is in contact with autodesk.
Perhaps it's a error with the german version of inventor ?

i just wanted to know, what's happening in the wide world.
I'm waiting for an answer for weeks !!!

so again my question : should it work or does it work?
also with english version VIZ4,2 SP2
and german version inventor 6 SP1

I really want to work!

Please help me again

The plugin has been tested and it does work but I
don't know why it is failing for you.  The failure that you are getting
occurs because either the file "nb.dll" or the file "dx.dll" is not
loading.  If everything is installed correctly then these files along with
the two plugin files should all be in your "Autodesk\Inventor 6\bin"
directory.  Check to be sure the files are there.

Check your path system variable.  The
inventor\bin ddirectory will be automatically added to the path when
InventorUtility.dlu is loaded.  It might be failing if the path is
excessively long, however, I believe you wouldn't even get as far as you are
getting.  Try manually adding the Inventor\bin ddirectory to your
path.

Hi Wayne

Super, thank you !!!!!!!

At least i copied the two dll's to C:\program files\Autodesk VIZ 4 and now it works ;-)))

Adding the inventor\bin path and the Autodesk VIZ 4 path to the path variable was not enaugh ?!
