Using a master file as iPart to derive different (parametric) parts/assemblies?

Hi, I am using the following approach:

1) make a multibody master .ipt file

2) derive the different bodies into separate part files

3) assemble them in an assembly

(steps 2 and 3 are done at once using the Manage->MakePart button)

I would need a set of assemblies (and of course also their constituents), which are differing in some parameters. I can make the master file an iPart, so that it can change parametrically, but the problem with the derived parts is that they derive from the *actual* shape of the master file, and I do not seem to be able to make parmetrically changeable derived files and assemblies.

Is there an elegant way for this? i.e. to use a parametric master file to create different (or parametric) parts and assemblies?
