Unable to import Acad geometry into IV7, 4 fatal errors

Hi folks

Using Inventor 7 and Autocad 2002 (saving as 2000, 2004 NOT installed yet due to the rest of our engineering team.

I am unable to import ANY geometry from Acad into
Inventor 7.

Whether its trying to just open a Acad file in IV7 or
whether its just trying to insert an Acad file in an empty IPT.

I posted the error clip images in a zip file in CF on June 2nd under 4 fatal errors, but did not get any responces. Any help would be GREAT!!! Specs are IV7,Acad2002,WinXP
2.2mhz,512ram,nvidia Quardo4 700 XGL. Thank You

Make or open a sheet metal part. Unfold
it, if not done. Save flat as DXF. Open DXF in to Inventor, IDW or IPT. Now the
rest of you DWG's or DXF's should work. This is the fix I use when I have this
problem.

shelby,
are you in the sketch mode when you try to insert the AutoCad file into the .ipt?
have you tried "place component" in an .iam file?
i have had an error message a few times trying to insert an AutoCad 2004 file into an .iam, after using the purge command in Autocad to remove the unused layers, etc. it came right in. hope this helps.

Just tried it in an iam per your sugestion.
It gave me "Failed to open document" error
They tells me its not valid for placement.
Go figure....... I have tried placing Acad geometry
in Inventor 7 going on about 5 hours this week
with ZERO success. What a pain......

Can you zip up and post one of the Acad files to IVCF?

i'd say about a third of my part files are made from inserting ACAD drawings. I am using ACAD 2004 though.
I create a drawing in ACAD, then create new part in IV, return out of sketch mode theres a little blue acad icon on my toolbar to import ACAD drawing, click on that, a GUI box comes up to choose layers and to constrain end points click O.K. Pops right up into IV I then do all my constraining and I'm good to go.

No problems with that yet.

Sorry about that, don't return out of sketch mode before bringing in the ACAD DWG. I was thinking of something else.

I posted an generic acad file into CF for anyones testing
on this fatal error issue. I added it below the post from June 2nd.

I firmly believe this has something to do with NOT installing MDT power pack toolbars
when installing Acad 2002. In other words, NO MDT is on my machine whatsoever. My process of installing inventor went like this. IV6 then ACAD2002, (No power packs for MDT), then just last month i installed IV7 and just left Acad 2002 on. I did not install Acad 2004

I have opened this file just fine.

I have uploaded the IDW to iCF.
