Unable to Save as STL!!

Hi all,

I'm having some issues with files in a particular project that are a little screwy and seem to be getting worse. (what I get for letting someone else design parts on my machine). Anyway the upshot at the moment is that I am unable to save as an STL file to have parts made as this option does not appear on the drop down list for file type. It appears to be giving me the save as file list for an assembly rather than that for a part. Any ideas?

Regards

Steve

Really off the wall but try deriving it into a new part file and see if you
can export it from there.

No go Kent,

Its as if the computer thinks that all of these part files are assembly files. Just tried it on some other parts that I am confident of their integrity and it is still only giving me the save as options that an assembly has.

Can you upload an example file to IVCF?

Go to tools >> Addin-ins and make sure the Autodesk STL translator is
loaded.

Kent,

It's not just STL files that I can't do. It's all forms of output other than XGL, ZGL BMP and streamline files. The list that I get in the ipt os the same list I would get for an assembly file. I'm sure something has become very screwy with my install.

For example, I can no longer access parameters through any means. The button depresses as it should, but nothing happens. Help is unavailable. Nothing happens when F1 is pressed. Just trying to look now at the add ins and nothing happens. Leads me to think that a conflict with another program is hurting the software. Funny thing is, the program itself is very stable and rarely if ever crashes.

I think my solution may be to wait for IV7 to arrive (still not here would you believe) and then try and get the IT people to do a completely fresh install (try being the really operative word).

Regards

JD,

The problem seems to be specific to my machine at this time. I am able to get guys in our other office to produce the exports OK using these files.

Is there a standalone add in manager in your start
menu for Inventor?

Yes there is. Unfortunately when I tried to run it i received an error message. Something i have installed must have effected several dll's that IV relies on. I'll post a copy of the error to IVCF.

Thanks Kathy.

I had the same problem. I removed and re-installed Inventor and the problem went away.
