Trouble with importing a dxf

I have a dxf file of one of our customers logo that they are wanting us to cut for them.

I am needing to import their dxf into my .ipt.

I create a new sketch, "Insert ACAD", and drill down to the dxf.

I have already put everything on layer 0 and purged all unnecessary info.

The dxf imports into my .ipt, but nowhere close to where I want it.

I select "Move" then select all the logo. I select "Base Point" and then attempt to drag the logo closer to where I want it located so I can dimension it to it's location.

When I try to move the logo, Inventor quits responding.

I have tried this maybe half a dozen times and same result every time.

What would be the best way to locate the logo dxf?

Thank you so much for your help.

with something like this I would open it in AutoCAD first and relocate the geometry as close as possible to the UCS, 0,0,0.  Save and then try importing into Inventor once more.

Thank you.

I have done that.

I put the 0,0 of the dxf right at the lower left of the part,

but in AutoCAD I do a zoom all, it still throws it way out in left field.

I'm working on the dxf now trying to figure out what they have done with it to make it do this.

Thanks again for your help.

Not sure why you didn't move it where you want it while in AutoCAD, but -

when doing something similar in Inventor I normally change the geometry to an Inventor Sketch Block before attempting to do anything with it (I am assuming some complexity to the logo).

if a zoom all is doing that, there might be some unknown/invisible entities way off to the right - going by your description that after relocating to 0,0 and you do a zoom extents it ends up in the left side.

Check to see all layers are turned on, I bet something is frozen and still exists in the dxf.

Sounds like you have a "floater" to me.  Find it and delete it.

or

put your target geometry on a new layer and then import only that layer into Inventor.

I have done a zoom extents, and it fills the screen as I would expect it to.

All objects are on the layer zero, and only layer zero shows in the layer list.

I'm givng up on their dxf, and going to dimension a drawing of their part and just recreate it myself.

Thank you all for your help.

I'm not understanding what you mean by moving it in Autocad. I did what I know how to do.

I've attached the logo if you can find the floater, but I sure find nothing.

In AutoCAD I checked and it was relatively close to a User Coordinate System origin, but when I set the UCS to World it was a long way from the origin.

In any case,

...even using it without moving to the WCS origin in AutoCAD - I was easily able to drag it all around the screen in Inventor once I converted it to an Inventor Sketch Block,

but,

...given the nature of the geometry as a bunch of complex splines, I would redraw (actually simply new sketch over the origina) as tangent arcs and lines and then convert that to a Sketch Block and delete the original import.
