We have been getting this message for several years now.  I think everyone knows that if you make modifications in the flat pattern that it does not affect the original part.  Please allow the option to turn off this message.

Hi chrisw01a,

The developers don't generally read the forums, but they do watch the Inventor IdeaStation.

Here is a link to an Idea Station idea that is the same as your suggestion, you can give it a vote to support your suggestion:

Make sure when you post your idea in the idea station, in the idea post a link to this thread.  Then back in this thread post a link to the idea.  That way they stay connected.
