Hi,
I have an ipt file I downloaded which has a mesh texture applied to it. I am assuming that the texture also has an alpha channel, as I can see through the mesh. Could someone please tell me how I can transfer this mesh texture into the Inventor material list so it is available to use on other part I model up myself. I am using Inventor 2010.
Thanks for any help.

What is the name of the texture (color) - are you sure it isn't one of the standard colors already in Inventor?
Hi,
You must save the image file in BMP format in following directory:
In 2010 release maybe in :\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2010\Textures\Surfaces
In 2012 release is in :\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\Textures\Surfaces

Hi,
I actually downloaded the file from these boards. Not sure if it is standard or not. I have looked through all the textures installed on my copy of inventor, but cannot see it anywhere. This is a link to the file

Hi,
I looked in that folder, and all the textures are there including different mesh types. For some reason though only a small portion of them show up in my material list. Any ideas why?
Its really a standard texture of inventor.
Go to the Projects Panel and check if the USE STYLE LYBRARIE is set to Read-Only
OK I checked that, and it was set to NO. I have set it to YES and now nearly all the textures are in my list except the mesh one and the different screen types. The expanded metal textures will do for what I need, but any ideas as to why some of the textures do not show in the list? Thanks.
Maybe because that textures is not saved in Style library but only in local document.
First of all change the Project setting to READ ONLY, not NO (I think you have this option in your version), then go check again if all the textures are listed.
If don't, then you have to change again the Project setting to YES (so you can write in Inventor library), open the IPT file containing the texture and save the texture in the application. (see the image file please to see how)

Manuela's got it right.
I don't think all of the textures come with "colors" using them.
You should be able to Save it to your Style Library if Use Style Library is set to Yes (not No or Read Only).
Or you can export the color and import it into other parts.
Or you could always make a new color using that or any of the other textures and you can even make your own textures. If the bmp filename ends in "&" whatever color is in the last pixel will be transparent in the rest of the texture. (The stock ones use a magenta color, but you could pick any color you want as long as you put it in that last pixel (the rightmost column and bottom row in these "&" textures are just for that pixel).)
