Open your template file, then go to the manage tab and select "Styles Editor". Click the + symbol next to layers, and select "Visible" lines. Click the colored block under "appearance" and change it to the color you wish. Make sure and resave as a template.

1. Open the template file.

2. Manage > Styles Editor, expand the Layers Node.  Assuming you are talking about the "Visible Edges".... pick "Visible Edges" in the left pane. Now in the right pane, find the " Visible Edges" layer and change the color to what you want it to be. Click "Done" to exit the Styles Editor.

3. Now you have to write this to your Styles Library. On the Manage tab, Styles and Standards panel, click "Save".  If your library is read/write, this will write your changes to the library.

4. Save the template and exit.

Start  a new idw using this template and see if it works when you bring in a part.

I did do that but it still isn't coming in blue

You must save the style into the style library, otherwise it will replace the template file styles with the style from the library. So after you finish editing the style, you have to click to save the style into the style library.

Go into projects, in the bottom pane, right click on "Used Style Library" and select Read-Write.

Double check that you saved the styles to the style library. So if you reopen your template, go into the styles and if the color change to visible lines isn't showing as the color you wanted, change it to blue, then when you close the styles dialogue, save the styles to the style library, resave the template, and try again.

So when you bring in your view, it changes the styles settings back to black? But it was set to blue just before you brought in the view?

no, the template has it set to blue but when I open it as a new IDW using the template then before I bring in a view I checked it and it is black

Sounds like you haven't saved the changes to the styles library. Make sure and do so, and tell it to replace the settings in the style library with the changes. So say "yes to all" when you are saving the settings.

Then the idw file that you edited is not the one in your templates folder.  When you start a new file, it will show you where the template is being taken from.

This should be the one that you edit. If the one that you edited is not in this location, then use WIndows Explorer andcopy it to this location.

Just post the template as an attachment in a message on this board. That way everybody can have a look.

I'm with KArthur on this, I think you don't have this file saved into your templates. Because it does have the style set as blue, and you say it's black when you start a new idw, something is amiss.

Also, if you had saved the style to the style library, I believe it would replace the color every time you started a new idw. So make sure you're saving it to the style library.

and select yes to all
