Hi

I want to make symmetric surface i.e. golf ball with dimples. I found that I can do them by using revolve cut but how can I set them symmetrically on whole spherical surface

Accurately modeling a golf ball has always been a good challenge.

I used this many times in my classes.

It can be done, if you think outside your comfort zone.

Traditional patterns will not work accurately.

I have one on my box at home.  If I can remember I'll upload it tonight.

Hi Petitioner,

Here is an example modeled by Inventor expert Loren Jahraus:

http://forums.autodesk.com/autodesk/attachments/autodesk/121/3658/1/GolfBall.zip

Note that you'll need to click and drag on the End Of Part marker to expose the features in the tree.

Keep in mind that this is just one example that represents a golf ball, but the actual pattern on a typical golf ball is a bit more involved. There are probably other techniques that can be used as well, but this should serve as a good general example.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Hi

Thank you very much for the response. I will have a look at the file now

I am quite new to Inventor.

BTW I know this is off top but I applied for the Inventor Training so I hope I will improve my skills which are now elementary. I'm gonna design H Darrieus wind turbine in Inventor for my engineers dissertation. Wish me luck:-)

Probably I will drop some posts during this period

Cheers
