There should be an icon in the system tray after you install. Select
open window, then go to help, the demos will help you learn the
operation. The spaceball is primarily an xyz motion controller with
programmable buttons. The primary input device is still your mouse.

It will replace your Rotation feature and will also zoom and pan. As for setting up the buttons to do a pattern - I'm not sure erxactly what you are refering too. You should try using Inventor and you will see what it does.
How many buttons do you have?

I have 12 buttons. Wend a say pattern component, it's just a exemple of a fonction that does not have already a hot key (ex: C = mate, L = line, S = sketch,...) so I can't make a macro. Also with the rotation tool you could clik on a bolt in a assembly (for exemple) and you will rotate around it, but I don't know if there's a way to do this with the spaceball.

He was alluding to an American movie called
"SpaceBalls".  You should be able to program the buttons.  Open
Inventor.  Click on the spaceball icon in your tray and open.  Right
click to User Macro in the list and click add. You will want to set up a user
macro something similar to "<Alt>+F (Wait) N" for bringing up the new file
dialog.  You may probably need  "<Alt>+I (Wait) P"  Enter a
name.  Then click in the big box.  Hit ALT and I simultaneously on
your keyboard.  Click the insert pause button the hit P.  Save.
Now drag your new macro onto the button that you want.  If it has an
assignment you will need to Right click and unassign first I
believe.

You should be in Invntor trying it out instead of asking us if it will do it. As far as creating a mcro goes - yes - you can create a macro. How do you do it - I'm not sure, I haven't tried it in a few months. WAIT< try this - click on the #Dconnection icon in the lower left coner of Windows and then click on User Macros.

The rotate component tool allows you to rotate a part in space. The
rotation in view, rotates your viewing position in space. They are two
different ways of rotation. The spaceball is a rotation of your viewing
position in space, it does not rotate a part in space, you will have to
do that with the mouse.

When you Open the 3dConnexion window, what is in the application drop-down?
(3dxWare for ????????) If should say Inventor. If not, you will not be able to
assign macros to buttons. As a mater of fact, you should re-load the driver. If
it does say Inventor there, it is working properly. However you will only be
able to set macros to do things you can do with your keyboard (i.e. menu
options, hotkeys, Alt-commands). You can not start icons or hidden commands with
Buttons. And you can not program now hotkeys.

A good place to start is looking at what key strokes would activate the
menu.

RMB on the icon in the task-tray and click "Open Window". (3DxWare for _____
should say Inventor) In the left box there is a option called "User Macros"
Expand that. RMB on any of the existing Macros and click "Edit User Macro" See
how it looks?

To create your own...RMB on "User Macro" and hit "Add User Macro". Then, just
type in the keystrokes as you would in Inventor. (If you need, you can switch
over and actually do the keystrokes to make sure you are doing it right.) Call
is something useful. Hit save. Then drag the newly formed Macro into the button
location you want (1, 2, 3...) (BTW, it says this at the bottom of the window.)

Thanks to all of you but this I all know.
What I wanted to know is how to finds out what the keystrokes are if you do
a RMB and select from a menu f.ex Isometric.
Are the Inventor menus documentet somewhere?
I am so old fashioned that I prefer books to "ebooks" 🙂

Use the ALT key. Notice how the menu titles have one of the letters underlined?
Well, if you hit ALT- it will bring up that menu. Then, just type
in the letter on that menu corresponding to action you want. So, for example,
View isometric would be Alt-vs., I

So, when you are creating the macro, just type the buttons in exactly like you
would if doing it in Inventor.

P.S. You can not simulate mouse clicks on the keyboard, which means you can not
have macros that need a mouse action.
