Solution - .idw to Pro-E??

One of our clients is asking for paper as well as electronic copies of the drawing package we are delivering with a system we have desinged & built for them. We are running IV 5.3, and they are running Pro-E (not sure what version). Does any one know of an easy way of converting our .idw's? We have tried "save copy as" .dwg, ang .dxf, but they don't get anything on their end. Are there any solutions besides .pdf?

Thanks, Angus McLarty

What do you mean "
size=3>they don't get anything on their end".  Can you see the DWG and/or
DXF?  I'm pretty sure ProE can read DXFs...

They don't have anything appear on the screen (in either format). When they check the files through Explorer, they are several hundred kb in size, but there is nothing for them to view through Pro-E. I didn't think they would be able to use the .dwg's, but I thought the .dxf's would be OK.

Explorer says the file contains info, but they can't see any of it.

Yes, but can YOU see the info in the DXF.  If
you can then the problem is on their end.  If YOU can;t then there problem
is on your end and between IV and the DXF output...

Yeah, that's right. We can see the .dxf here in AutoCAD 2000, but they can't.

Any solutions?

Try to dxf in paper space only and see what happens.

Nope.  Sounds like a good DXF (if you can see
it).  Probably some issue on their end...and that's really a ProE
problem.  Sorry..

one suggestion.. get them to ditch ProE and buy
Inventor..<g>  it was worth a shot...

Try hitting the Options button in the dialog, and choose a
different version of .DXF. You can choose between R12 thru 2000. It might depend
on what version of .DXF that PRO-E can read.

When I did the "save copy as", I selected Paper Space only, so that's already been done.

I guess I have to convince them to take .pdf's! Probably an easier sell than switching software!

Thanks, Angus McLarty

Maybe the Pro-E import is only importing from Model
Space....

i have pro/e 2001 (2002390) and tried importing
dxf's using different settings.

you can keep the dxf version on 2000 in IV, just
change the 'export to' setting to ' model space'

my test file imported fine that way.

Try opening the dxf in AutoCAD and copyclip All in
the Layout tab. Then go to the Model tab and Pasteclip. Save as either dwg or
dxf and try sending that over. Maybe what David Radlin said about it reading
only model space is what is happening - this will address it.
