Sketch Block Insert Point Visibility and Selection

I'm mainly interested in using an insert point which is not on sketch block geometry (and is actually not geometry although having a point geometry is acceptable).  I'd like to make coincident constraints to it.

Please tell me if I'm correct:

  • The Sketch Block Insert Point is used only for insertion. It is not snapable, selectable nor constrainable (Even geometric and visible insert points).
  • An off-geometry insert point is only visible if you checked visibility when you created the block.
  • If the block properties are modified then the insert point can be made visible by selecting it but you cannot select an insert point that is off the geometry that was not originally visible (I think this could be called a Catch-22).

Perhaps the way to work with a sketch block with an off-geometry insert point is to:

  • Always insert to a point (end point, mid point, center point, etc.).  Then the Sketch Block can be moved or rotated using that point as a handle.
  • It still leaves the question as to how to constrain the sketch block to other geometry (the insert point is the functional link).

Geoffrey, please see my answers in Italic:

Correct, it is not an entity so no entity operations on it
  • An off-geometry insert point is only visible if you checked visibility when you created the block.
    Correct
  • If the block properties are modified then the insert point can be made visible by selecting it but you cannot select an insert point that is off the geometry that was not originally visible (I think this could be called a Catch-22).
Not clear, if you edit the block properties you can set as visible the originally not visible insert point just clicking "visible" (no need to click the insert point)

If you need to constraint etc. your insert point, my suggestion is to create a real point coincident with the insert point and include it into the block

    Ciao
