Show a part's hidden lines in a section view

Is there a way to show just one part's hidden lines in a section view while
maintaining the views overall "Remove Hidden Line" Style? In particular, I
have unchecked the sectioning on a shaft and would like to show it's hidden
lines as well. Thanks.

In the past I would have the view hidden and turn off the visibility of the
lines I don't want to see, by RMB and select visabilty. If there is a better
way I would like to know.

That, I suppose, is an option if I had a spare hour to pick all the lines I
wanted off! But now that's not really much of an option. The other is to
open a sketch and fake in some hidden lines, but that goes against my
constitution.

I'm not sure if this would work or not but you might be able to turn on hidden lines, create a view sketch and project them. Then turn off hidden lines. This assumes of course that you can 1) Project lines in drawing mode which I think was new in R6. 2) Change the line types of projected lines. 3) They remain associative when the hidden lines are turned off. You could try something similar by making a part sketch and projecting lines, then showing that sketch in your drawing view too. I don't know if any of this will work but it is something you could try.

Thanks, Rich. Incidentally that is exactly what I
was doing while you were typing your email. Scary!!!

I decided to go into "video game mode" and try
opening the HVAC vent, putting the gun in the cleanup robot's pocket, then
leaving the armory and returning to my quarters and opening the vent there, and
retrieving the gun from the robot (obscure Gateway reference - anyone remember
Leisure Suit Larry??).

Well the results are:

1) Yes you can project geometry (after turning
hidden lines off)

2) Yes you can change the projected lines'
linetype

3) No the lines do not remain associative when you
make a change to the part.

As Meatloaf would say, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. But as
my boss would say that ain't good enough.

I'm still hoping there's a way the maker intended
for this to be done.

OK Inventor, I'm callin' you out. You call yourself ANSI compliant, but
hidden lines should NEVER be shown in a section view, unless the part is NOT
sectioned. By rights, then, if I have a sectioned view showing hidden lines,
they should then be shown only on those parts I have chosen not to section.

I think this needs to be addressed as a programming error in violation of
ANSI standards. What say? We ANSI true believers don't want to do the
"project-non-associative-geometry" workaround to get these hidden lines
until the end of time here.

The better solution is to add a "Show Hidden Lines" check option on the RMB
menu in the "Show Contents" tree items that are right clicked, and allow
users to discretely control display of the hidden lines associated with part
instances.

Yep... This is a known issue. Mixed view display. We have it planned... what
else can I say.
I know... I put together a couple of ideas, hacks, and placed an image in
the CF.
Look for the subject "Alternate Thread View"
Like I said - it'd to generate ideas - not as a workaround for the issue.

FWIW -

This is scary to admit but I played LSL 1,2,3,4, and 7.
