Show Item in Part List without Adding Mass to Assembly

Hi,

I have an assembly. During the making the of the assembly we use a small guage made out of thin sheet metal to check a few settings. For this reason I place the guage model in the assembly so that it shows up on the BoM and on the parts list.

However, I would like for the gauge not to be included in the mass, inertia and CoG calculations as it won't be included in the final assembly.

I've tried reference and phantom and they both make the gauge dissapear off the parts list. Is there anyway to achieve what I want without making a new assembly file?

thanks,

John

Phantom and Reference are doing exactly what they were designed to do.

Try making an empty part with no sketch that has the iproperties you need to represent the gauge. Leave it as Normal. It will show up in the BOM.

Hi johnster100,

If I understand correctly, you can edit your gauge iProperties and override the Mass Properties setting the mass to zero. This will allow it to show in the BOM, but it will not impact the mass properties of the assembly.

Override physical properties

Edit: In re-reading the original post, it seems you do not really need the part in the assembly. Therefore mcgyvr's suggestion that you use a virtual part is the best solution.

Create a part or a virtual part in an assembly

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
